DropKite Privacy Policy
DropKite is a tool for moving files between your phone and another device (such as a PC) over your own local network (usually your Wi-Fi), provided by Paul James Hatton, trading as MySQLBot (“we”, “us”, “our”). It is built to be private by design: your files move directly between your devices and are never sent to us or to any cloud service.
Information we collect
None. DropKite does not collect or transmit any personal or usage data. Specifically:
- We do not require an account and do not ask for your name, email, or any identifier.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking services.
- We do not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. (DropKite uses Google Play Billing to process the optional one-time purchase — see “Purchases” below.)
- We, the developer, have no server that receives your data and no way to see your files or activity.
How your files are handled
- When you start a transfer session, DropKite runs a small, temporary web server on your phone. Another device on the same local network — usually your Wi-Fi — connects to it directly to send or receive files.
- Files are transferred only between your own devices over your local network. They are not uploaded to the developer, to Google, or to any cloud or internet service.
- Each session is protected by an access code — a random PIN shown on your phone, or a password you set. While a session is active, the server can be reached by any device on the same local network as your phone (normally your Wi-Fi) that has the access code; it is never exposed to the internet. It keeps running if you switch away from the app so an in-progress transfer can finish, and it stops when you tap “Stop” in DropKite. An ongoing notification is shown the whole time the server is running.
- Files received from the other device are saved on your phone in a folder that DropKite shows you on screen — the Download/DropKite folder on Android 10 and newer, or the app’s own storage folder on older versions. They stay under your control; you can view or delete them at any time.
- Because transfers happen over a local network rather than the internet, they are not routed through any external service. DropKite does not add its own encryption to the local connection, so we recommend using it only on a network you trust (such as your home Wi-Fi) and keeping the access code private.
Purchases
DropKite offers a one-time in-app purchase that unlocks additional features. This purchase is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment; DropKite receives only a confirmation that the purchase was made so it can unlock the features on your device. We never receive or store your payment card details or billing information. Payments are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and the Google Play terms.
Permissions we request, and why
- Notifications — to show an ongoing notification while a transfer session is running, so you always know the server is active.
- Run a foreground service — to keep an in-progress transfer going reliably while your screen is off or the app is in the background.
- Network and Wi-Fi state / Internet — to run the local transfer server and to display your phone’s local network address so the other device can connect. This is used only for the on-device local server; DropKite does not send your data over the internet.
- Prevent sleep (wake lock) — to avoid interrupting a transfer that is still in progress.
- Files you choose to share — files are selected only through your phone’s built-in file picker, so DropKite can access only the specific files you pick. DropKite does not request broad access to your storage, and does not use location, contacts, camera, microphone, SMS, or call information.
- In-app billing (via Google Play) — to offer the optional one-time unlock. The payment is handled entirely by Google Play, as described under “Purchases”.
Data stored on your device
The only information DropKite stores is on your own device: your unlock (purchase) status and any session password you choose to set. This information stays on the device and is never transmitted to us.
Children’s privacy
DropKite is suitable for users of all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected in an app update.
